BARNES & THORNBURG LLP SCHOLARSHIP

Xochitl Rodriguez

Xochitl Rodriguez is a third year law student at Loyola University Chicago School of Law pursing a Juris Doctor and an LLM in Tax. She will graduate Loyola with certificates in Health Law, Transactional Law, and Tax Law. She graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Xochitl received the HLSF Fellowship Award in 2019. Since she expressed an interest in tax law, HLSF placed her at the Cook County State Attorney’s Office in the Real Estate Taxation Section in the Civil Actions Bureau. Thereafter Xochitl secured a legal externship in the Office of the General Counsel at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital. She will continue this externship through the end of the year and it has confirmed she would like to practice health law after graduation. Xochitl is the first in a family of 12 to obtain a college degree and to go to law school. She is very proud to have inspired a younger sibling to pursue law school as well. Xochitl’s maturity and humility impressed the HLSF Board. For that reason, HLSF has invested in Xochitl’s advancement and future two years in a row. She was a fellowship recipient in 2019 and now a scholarship recipient in 2020. Xochitl is no doubt a rising star and HLSF is proud to have her join the HLSF network and the overall community of Latino lawyers.
