Maryfer is a third-year law student at UIC John Marshall School of Law. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Criminology, Law and Justice from the University of Illinois at Chicago. As a first-generation Latina, Maryfer witnessed families in her community endure many hardships related to immigration in the United States. During college and law school she helped individuals navigate the challenging immigration process. She was a law clerk at a firm in Chicago, held various legal internships with immigration organizations, and participated in her law school’s International Human Rights Clinic. This summer Maryfer will be participating in a post-graduate clerkship at the Houston Immigration Court. The HLSF scholarship will help Maryfer finance the costs of her legal education and provide her with increased opportunities to pursue public service work after graduation. HLSF proudly welcomes this future Latina lawyer to its network and the overall community of Latino lawyers.
