Ms. Lizbeth Avilés is a first-year law student at DePaul University College of Law. She graduated cum laude from DePaul University with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. Ms. Avilés transitioned to law school from a career in finance. A proud first-generation Mexican American, her experiences from helping her parents run their small business from a young age inspired her to pursue her dream of being a corporate attorney. She co-founded the Joliet Latino Economic Development Association because she is fiercely passionate about promoting equity and justice in communities where there are disparities in access and representation. Thanks to this HLSF scholarship, Ms. Avilés will be able to manage the costs of her studies as she clerks for the 12th Judicial Circuit Court in her hometown of Joliet, Illinois this summer.
