Ms. Jazmin Alvarez is a second-year law student at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law. She received her Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from Marquette University. Ms. Alvarez hopes to continue her career in public service by using her law degree to advocate on behalf of marginalized communities and advance racial and social justice initiatives in Chicago. She plans to use the HLSF scholarship to help cover the costs of her studies. This summer, she will continue working as the Director of Constituent Services with the Office of Congresswoman Robin Kelly while taking multiple summer courses.
“The true measure of our commitment to justice, the character of our society, our commitment to the rule of law, fairness, and equality cannot be measured by how we treat the rich, the powerful, the privileged, and the respected among us. The true measure of our character is how we treat the poor, the disfavored, the accused, the incarcerated, and the condemned.” – Bryan Stevenson
