Join us in welcoming Arthur Acevedo, Steven Avalos, Yeny Ciborowski, and Erika P. Lopez. We look forward to serving alongside these new members to achieve HLSF’s mission of diversifying the legal profession through financial support and making lasting connections between students and those in the legal community.
Arthur Acevedo is a Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development at UIC John Marshall Law School. Art teaches Constitutional Law, Federal Income Tax, Corporate Income Tax, Contracts, and Business Associations. He is also the Faculty Advisor to the Latino Law Student Association, Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee, member of the Dean’s Advisory Group, member of the Board of Trustees Strategic Planning Committee, and member of the Dean Search Committee. Art received a law degree from DePaul University College of Law, Masters of Science in Taxation from DePaul University Graduate School of Business, Bachelor of Science in Commerce majoring in Accounting and Finance and is a Certified Public Accountant. Art is licensed to practice law in Illinois, is a Chicago native, and speaks Spanish and some Portuguese.
Steven Avalos is Director Labor and Employee Relations at Molson Beverage Company. Steve is responsible for setting and directing all labor relations strategies in the U.S. Steve has dedicated his legal practice to labor and employment law matters. Steve is a member of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois and its In-House Counsel Committee. He is a member of the University of Illinois College of Law’s Latino Law Student Association Alumni Scholarship Committee. He received a law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Pre-Law and a Minor in East Asian Languages and Cultures from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Steve is licensed to practice law in Illinois. Steve is a Chicago native, speaks Spanish, is conversational in Chinese, and is a prior HLSF Scholarship recipient.
Yeny Ciborowski is Associate General Counsel at Enova International. Yeny’s practice concentrates on providing Regulatory counsel supporting Enova’s strategic business initiatives and enterprise-wide risk solutions. Yeny is a board member and co-chair of the In-House Counsel Committee for the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois. Yeny received a law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Political Science and French from the University of Michigan. Yeny is licensed to practice law in Illinois. Yeny speaks Spanish, French, and Portuguese and she is a former HLSF Scholarship recipient.
Erika P. Lopez is a corporate partner in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Erika’s practice concentrates on advising private equity sponsors, private companies and public companies in connection with a variety of transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions, stock and asset purchases, divestitures, corporate governance and corporate law matters. Erika is a member of the Kirkland & Ellis Women’s Leadership Initiative, Planning Committee. Erika received a law degree from Cornell College of Law and a Bachelor of Art degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Erika is licensed to practice law in Illinois and New York. She speaks Spanish and Portuguese, is a Chicago native, and a former HLSF scholarship recipient.
